Thank you for choosing to support Kindred Stories and our mission to provide a space for the celebration of Black authors, artisans, and other marginalized voices.
We are a Black-owned, small business with a very small staff. While we always aim to provide an amazing customer service experience (and usually do), please keep in mind we do not have the logistical and operational capabilities of much larger companies.
We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding regarding any issues you may encounter while supporting our store. Remember that we’re in this together.
Please do not hesitate to email any questions, feedback, or concerns to info@kindredstorieshtx.com, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Kindred Stories is located at 2304 Stuart Street in partnership with Project Row Houses. Our store hours are Wed-Sun 11 AM-6 PM and Sunday 12-5 PM.
You can also support us 24/7 online by visiting www.kindredstorieshtx.com, shopping our Bookshop store at www.bookshop.org/shop/kindredstories, or by purchasing your audiobooks through Libro.fm at https://libro.fm/kindredstories.
Bookshop.org is an online bookstore with a mission to support local, independent bookstores financially. As more and more people buy their books online, they created an easy and convenient way for customers to get books and support independent bookstores, like Kindred Stories, at the same time.
Kindred Stories has a Bookshop page to give our readers more buying choices as they shop for books. Our current online shop (www.kindredstorieshtx.com) has a highly curated selection of books for you to buy. We realize there are many more books to explore on the market that we may not currently carry. By shopping on the Kindred Stories Bookshop page, you can buy a specific book you may be looking for while supporting our store simultaneously. Alternatively, you can shoot us a custom order request to info@kindredstorieshtx.com.
Yes! Kindred Stories has partnered with Libro.fm to provide access to audiobooks for readers who prefer an audio format. When you purchase an audiobook or a Libro.fm monthly membership, you are directly supporting our store with your dollars which helps us keep our doors open, create jobs, and ultimately increases the positive impact we have on our local community.
We always pre-sell books not yet released via our online store. This is a great way to support authors and helps them make the New York Times Bestsellers list. The ship dates for these books are marked on the product page and are always subject to change. Due to our agreements with publishers and authors, we cannot ship these books before their release date. If you purchase a pre-order book and an in-stock book, please be aware that an extra shipping charge will apply as we have to ship the books not yet released separately.
If a book you’d like to purchase is currently out of stock, please get in touch with us at info@kindredstorieshtx.com so we can advise you on when we expect a restock. Alternatively, we can place a custom order for you if you’d like to have the book immediately.
If you’ve purchased something in stock on our website, we’ll place it in the mail within 1-3 business days. Here are the advertised delivery times according to the USPS website:
Media Mail: 2-10 business days
Priority Mail: 1-3 business days
If your order is not received, please use the tracking information emailed to you and contact USPS to inquire about the package's location. As a small business, we are unable to replace lost or stolen packages. We will try our best to help you remedy the situation.
We do offer local pick-up. Just select the local pick-up option when checking out. You will have 30 days to pick up your books before they are donated to a neighborhood school, free little library, or placed in our free books basket for the community to have. We try our best to send multiple pick-up reminders, and you can pay for shipping anytime. Due to the limited space in our store, we have to keep this policy in place. Thanks for understanding!
We are a small bookstore located in an underserved neighborhood. Every dollar you spend with us helps to ensure we can stick around and also supplements all of the unpaid community work we do. We work with schools to provide free books and facilitate author talks, book clubs, literary workshops, and a wide range of free community programs centered around literacy and wellness. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive updates on all of the great work we do! You can also follow our Instagram and Facebook pages.
