PRE-ORDER: Magic in the Land of Eternal Spring: A Novel
PRE-ORDER: Magic in the Land of Eternal Spring: A Novel
$30.00From the award-winning author Jared Lemus comes a novel where myth and danger collide in an isolated Guatemalan town
Huecotenango is a small town in a remote corner of Guatemala, where residents—outcasts, wanderers, and people running from the past—have gathered as if drawn by some unspoken calling. Behind Huecotenango’s daily rhythms, something has been silently approaching for fifteen years, and its inhabitants sense that their lives are about to change forever.
A crash on the outskirts brings two brothers into Huecotenango. The townspeople offer to help without knowing who the brothers are or what danger they might bring. Leo and Santiago see Huecotenango as a place to disappear and continue their illicit work, but their presence soon unsettles the community. Rumors spread and loyalties are tested as the town’s humble existence comes under threat. Extraordinary residents come into focus—a woman who can shapeshift into a jaguar, a healer who absorbs the ailments of others, a young woman with a debt to the god of the underworld—and their pasts, powers, and choices gradually converge with the brothers’ story in ways both dangerous and profound.
Jared Lemus has written a suspenseful, morally complex debut novel about survival, devotion, greed, and the inexorable pull of the past. In Magic in the Land of Eternal Spring, ordinary lives are tested by extraordinary forces, and the consequences of small decisions ripple fatally outward.

Jazz has better things to do like hanging out with her best friend, getting stellar grades, and of course, finding the perfect dress – and the perfect date – for the Sadie Hawkins dance. She has big goals and doesn’t need grandma cramping her style.
Before long, Jazz starts to notice peculiar things Grandma does like sneaking out at night and popping up as a substitute phys ed teacher at school. Her instincts tell her that Grandma Mae is up to something, and she decides to prove it. One night, Jazz follows her grandmother into the city and the adventure begins. Caught up in a world of high speed car chases, a ninja fight in an alley, a kidnapping at the school dance, and mysterious money transfers, can Jazz prove her grandma is a spy?

PRE-ORDER: The Color of Sacrifice: A Novel
$20.00A gripping historical novel about two mothers, still reeling from the loss of a beloved soldier, whose opposing views on an impending Gold Star pilgrimage ignite personal journeys of their own.
Bound by grief, two women must choose how much they will sacrifice for one last goodbye.
It's 1933, and thousands of American mothers have already crossed the ocean to France to visit the graves of their sons lost during the Great War. Yet for Black Gold Star Mothers and Widows, this government-sponsored pilgrimage is an insult. As the final group of mourners prepare to sail cross the Atlantic—with white women aboard luxury liners and Black women relegated to cargo ships—many must decide if the long, segregated journey is worth the unfair treatment.
One widow wants to remember...
Thelma Hayes just wants to see her husband again—or at the very least, his final resting place. Widowed only a year after marrying the love of her life, she longs to give her fourteen-year-old son something he’s never had: a connection to the father he never knew. When an unexpected opportunity places France within reach, Thelma is willing to sacrifice almost anything to make the journey.
One mother refuses to forget...
Charlotte Hayes has already lost too much. After surviving the murder of her husband, the destruction of her home, and the death of her only son, she refuses to surrender one more piece of herself. Standing firm against the segregated pilgrimage to France, Charlotte vows not to accept anything less than equal acknowledgment of her son’s sacrifice.
Bound together by the man they both lost—and divided by how to best honor his memory—these two grieving women must decide what matters more: demanding dignity—or getting to say goodbye one last time.
Inspired by the true story of the segregated Gold Star Mothers Pilgrimage, THE COLOR OF SACRIFICE is a gripping historical novel about love, loss, reconciliation, and the painful cost of war.

ABOUT THE BOOK
A dazzling and heartfelt YA novel in verse by Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Award winner, Arriel Vinson, about a Black girl majorette healing from loss, while discovering how to dance to her own beat.
It's hard to plan for the future when the one you envisioned is now a thing of the past.
Seventeen-year-old Sky Simms should be riding high. It's senior year, and she's the dance team captain with a shot at a competition that could change her life. But Sky is still reeling from her older brother's sudden, tragic death and the collapse of their shared HBCU dreams—she as majorette, he as drum major.
With the memory of her brother ever-present, Sky struggles to manage all the moving parts of her life—school, college prep, dance--let alone find excitement for them. Once practice is in full swing, Sky’s distracted from her woes when forced to work with Meech, the cute but annoying drumline captain. And she slowly discovers they can help each other with more than the competition.
But she can only run from her grief for so long. Sky might not know what life looks like without her brother, but if she doesn’t learn to deal with the present, she could fumble her future before she can imagine a new one.ABOUT THE AUTHOR

PRE-ORDER: Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route (20th Anniversary Edition)
PRE-ORDER: Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route (20th Anniversary Edition)
$19.00An eloquent and original exploration of the Atlantic slave trade―now featuring the essay “Venus in Two Acts” and a new introduction by Dionne Brand.
A monumental work of first-person history, Lose Your Mother traces the legacy of the Atlantic slave trade by recounting a journey Saidiya Hartman took along a slave route in Ghana. Following the trail of captives from the hinterland to the Atlantic coast, she reckons with the blank slate of her own genealogy and the rippling effects of slavery on three centuries of African and African-American history.
The slave, Hartman observes, is a stranger―torn from family, home, and country. To lose your mother is to be severed from your kin, to be uprooted from your past, and to inhabit the world as an outsider. There are no known survivors of Hartman’s lineage, no relatives in Ghana whom she came hoping to find. Instead, she is a stranger in search of strangers, forging connections with others living in the wake of atrocity.
A rigorous and intimate reflection on the afterlife of slavery, Lose Your Mother is both a book of history and a book of grief. This 20th anniversary edition now includes Hartman’s landmark essay “Venus in Two Acts” and a new introduction by Dionne Brand―perfect for introducing new readers to Hartman’s lived-in way of contending with the past.

PRE-ORDER: Our Fragile Freedoms: Essays
$24.99“Engrossing and informative.” ―Zaakir Tameez, New York Times Book Review
From one of the most acclaimed and influential historians of the United States, an insightful guide to our history and why it matters.
Eric Foner has done more to shape the public and professional understanding of American history than any other scholar. The preeminent historian of the Civil War era, Foner’s keynote has been American freedom and the recurring battles over its meanings and boundaries. His award-winning works show that freedom has been a birthright for some and a struggle for others, that rights gained can also be lost, and that they must always be tended with knowledge and vigilance. The present political moment makes the importance of these themes abundantly clear.
This collection of Foner’s recent reviews and commentaries demonstrates the range of his interests and expertise, running from slavery and antislavery, through the disunion and remaking of the United States in the nineteenth century, Jim Crow and the civil rights movement, and into our current politics. Each piece shows a master at work, melding historical knowledge and balanced judgment with crystalline prose. Foner takes up towering figures from Washington to Lincoln, Douglass, and Rosa Parks, pivotal events such as the Fugitive Slave Act and the Tulsa Race Massacre, and the fragility of constitutional guarantees to civil liberties, due process, and birthright citizenship, whether in times of war or peace. He also explores recent controversies over how to commemorate, and how to teach, our history.
